March 11th and 12th 2015

Each day they tested her levels and she was doing good. They said they needed to wait to see how she was when she was warmed. They said it was like a rebirth, she was in an almost coma and it'd be like she was being born. They had taken the breathing tube out, put back in, but it was out for the warming. One of the NICU nurses who had been there a few times specifically asked to work that night for the warming. It made us feel a lot more comfortable  knowing the specific nurse who was on-duty had worked with C before and knew her.

I juggled pumping, my own vital tests, pushing back on the doctors who were students and eager to try every test possible on me, and visiting C. Scott juggled C and going home to see E for a little while each day. Luckily my mom and my aunt were there to help with E and the house etc.

At this point we still hadn't been able to hold her. Only hold her hand or put our hand on her head or foot. We had to limit how much warmth we gave her since she was being cooled.

It was hard to explain to others what was going on because  it was and still is all a grey area. No answers, no definites which is hard to accept. They told us we may never know what caused it, I didn't get pre-e or HELLP, the cord wasn't wrapped around her neck or pinched, so it is hard to tell what caused the lack of blood and oxygen to her brain.

The cooling started that Thursday March 12th in the evening and would take all night. She was hooked up to an EEG and video monitor to watch for brain activity and seizures.

Oh and at the same time E decided he was going to start to wear big boy underwear and use the potty... great timing E!
