Daycare and Duke

So I am "safe", was not affected by the layoffs, thank god. Things will change but more to come on that next week.

Eating baby food is still going well. Going to move to either pears or avocado next. Heard she might have trouble with different textures.

We visited a daycare yesterday. We had heard they are comfortable with kids who have special needs and wanted to check them out. They also offer part time for infants. It was a very nice school. The older kid areas were absolutely amazing so we might change E as well. It'd be so sad to leave his school and friends though. But we are definitely going to try C for a couple days a week so Scott can have down time to do some stuff around the house as well as have time to himself. I think it will be really good for her as well, the stimulation, new people, and not being coddled as much.

We had been trying to get into the Duke system for a while now, were looking for a reason to change. They have a cerebral palsy clinic so we asked our Dr. Z to refer us (he didn’t even recommend it, we had to do the research as ask him). We also wanted to test the waters and decide if we should totally change to Duke for neuro. We waited in the waiting area for about an hour after our appointment was supposed to be. Luckily C is easier than E and was cool with it. Then we waited in the room for like 20 minutes, it was freezing in there. The doctor came in to introduce himself and apologize for the delay, then he left and left a fellow to do the initial visit. He left and about 15 minutes later Dr. S came back in. We definitely liked the vibe. They were much more positive and said that no one can know for sure what C will or won’t do. He said she had pretty good tone, to watch her left side which seemed tighter. Keep doing stretches on her arms, hands, and ankles. The big thing was that he calmed her a few times, that always makes me feel good about a doctor or therapist if they can calm C instead of looking at you with fear in their eyes and passing her off. He said we could try to wean her off the keppra which was on our list when we went to visit Dr. Z before the bomb dropped. So fingers crossed that she does fine with the weaning off the seizure medicine. He agreed that some kids it changes their behavior and was fine with us weaning as long as we watched her closely. We also were able to talk to a social worker there, she was super nice and helpful. Overall, other than the long wait, it was a good vibe and we liked them, glad we are making the change.
